Copy On Write - when files and/or directories are copied, both copies point to the same data.Saves significant space with smaller files, not certain how this translates to large file. Disk deduplication - storing identical blocks of data only once. Some things that APFS offers, that NTFS does not: It is well tested and stable, but lacking in newer technology. The age of the file system is both the pro/con. I have lots of familiarity with NTSF as it is over 20 years old. I plan on configuring them in a software RAID, but haven’t decided which RAID system or 0, 1, 5, 6 or 10. I plan on shucking my 8TB drives and moving them into the Mac Pro.

The older Mac Pro has surprising good performance, particularly since I purchased it and two Apple Cinema Monitors for $400. I will be upgrading the dual Xeon CPUs to newer 6 core/12 threads to increase transcode capabilities (>18,000 passmark), along with other upgrades to improve performance. Just make sure to tag the post with the flair and give a little background info/context.įor context to my question, I run a Plex server on a 2009 (4,1 -> 5,1) Apple Pro.
